I can see clearly now...

I can see! The "overnight" contacts that I talked about here and here really worked!

I can see without contacts or glasses. My vision is definitely better outside. Inside, there's a bit of cloudiness, but otherwise, it's clear. I am so excited!

The uncomfortableness, for lack of a better word, of wearing the hard lenses at night is easing. It's a matter of getting used to them, and since I go right to bed after they're in...it's not that big of an issue.

I've been telling everyone--and I'll be happy to tell you more about my experience with these lenses.

Can't thank my eye doc enough, and I'm so thankful that my sister-in-law told me about these lenses.

I CAN SEE!!!

The morning after. (aka: Lens story, part deux)

Part One

Last night I put the lenses in. I won't lie, it was uncomfortable. Let's say that I was really aware that something was on my eye. Lots of tears--which is normal--and I found it helped to bend my head down and look at the ground while I adjusted to the feeling. I went to bed excited to see in the morning. It was about 10:30pm.

I woke up around 6:30, opened my eyes, and I could see. That's so not normal for me! Anyway, I put rewetting drops in my eyes immediately, and stayed in bed for a bit. I got up at seven and took them out. It's a really neat process to take them out. I opened my eyes really wide, bent my head forward, tugged on the outer corner of my eye and blinked. The lens popped right out into my hand. Popped the other lens out...and it was time to see if they worked.

I walked into my room and I could see. A bit blurry, but better than usual. My left eye had better vision, and the right eye was not as good. My first follow-up appointment was at 8:30am.

My eye doctor did his tests and it showed that these lenses did not sit properly on my eye. When we did the initial fitting, they were fine. He's guessing that once I fell asleep, they moved a bit. So, we're ordering a new size and will give this a try in a few weeks.

Even though the results were not perfect, I am really excited by the prospect of being able to see during the day without glasses or contacts. Even this slight change was promising. I'll post more when the new size comes in.

No more daytime contacts or glasses for me!

I'm ditching the contacts-all-day routine. Back in April, my sister-in-law told me about these contacts she's trying. She wears them at night, takes them out in the morning, and she can see all day without contacts or glasses. The idea intrigued me. I've worn contacts for well over 10 years and they've become such a habit. But, I wanted to give this new deal a try.

Luckily, a very close friend of mine is married to an eye doctor. I talked with him about these contacts and he was very interested in trying them out and offering them as part of his practice. I went in for the exam and it turns out that I am a good candidate for these lenses.

Today was my initial fitting. These contacts are smaller than traditional lenses, and they're "hard". I've never worn hard lenses before.

I'll write again when I have the first morning experience...

Happy 40th Sesame Street!

This week, Sesame Street turned 40! I found this link online that shows 101 characters, which is pretty cool.

My favorite character: Super Grover. I loved watching his segment during the show.

This is America and we are Americans

This is America and we are Americans.
We are young, we are old. We are wealthy, we are not.
We live in cities, we live in towns. We were born here, we came here.
We have dark skin, we have light skin.
We are teachers and students, soldiers and citizens, friends, neighbors, and family.
The Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and The Constitution of the United States say that we are all equal and we are all free.
They say that we may have our own opinions and speak them freely.
They say that we may worship as we wish.
They say we may protect and defend ourselves.
They say no matter what our ethnic origins, we are all equal and we are all free.
This is America, and we are Americans.

Jake and Lauren are participating in a Veterans' Day assembly tomorrow and they have some lines to recite for the show. I was practicing the lines with Lauren, and asked her if she understood what she was saying. She's 7. No, she didn't get it, but man, she sure had them memorized! We spent time talking about the poem above and what it means to be an American.

It's a hard concept to get if you've always lived here and always had the benefit of being an American. We may not always talk about it, but when given the opportunity, we want our children to understand just how lucky they are to be Americans. We want them to understand that many people sacrificed their lives for us to have these freedoms. We want them to understand that we should be thankful and not take these freedoms for granted.

Happy Veterans' Day to those of you who have served. Thank you for your service!

Last Halloween

Last Halloween was spent at the World Championship Parade for the Phillies! This year we're watching them in the World Series and hoping for another parade.

We went to Jeff's office, Spencer Gifts, and went trick or treating in the different departments. They really go all out, with some departments transforming their offices with spooky stuff, black lights, and bubbling cauldrons. It was great! We'll do the town ToT tomorrow night.
